Dan and Music...Study and Performance

Last Updated: 2019-02-10

A point, in brief: I'm a Tenor singing with the Seattle Chamber Singers.

This page is about my experience with Music. (I will revive also a long-ago started Music Collection page. Eventually.)

Goal: log or document my performances *and* repertoire.

Background I have had the extreme good fortune of my parents instilling in me a "life of music," from a young age. (And happily, I do have some modicum of talent/ability.)

  • Pre-school: Kiddie keyboard and other musical instrument exploration
  • Elementary: At least two years in the Northwest Boy Choir (here in Seattle)
  • Middle School: Took up the violin, and was in orchestra (And before a bit as well? Can't recall when I started)
  • Middle School: After graduating (aging out) of the Boy Choir, I spent one year in the Northwest Youth Choir (now called VocalPoint)
  • High School: I sang and performed in Roosevelt High School's famed musicals all four years, and Junior (?) and Senior year, was in Vocal Jazz. That was great fun, and included a capella four-voice caroling in Winter, Sing-o-grams for Valentine's Day, and doing regional festival/competitions in Idaho
  • College: at Reed I joined their Collegium Musicum: a usually a capella baroque group—but we did do Mozart's Requiem with the Reed Orchestra! Huzzah!

But—when I transferred to University of Washington, I dropped/stopped ALL music. I focused on academics (and did really well). But, in hindsight, I regret the abandonment.

In the fall of 2018 at long last I overcome inertia, and I joined a local community choir, Singin' in the Rain, led by the indomitable Sari Breznau, and on November 4, we did Mozart's Requiem at Plymouth Congregational Choir downtown, with the Ballard Civic Orchestra led by Paula Madrigal, in honor of Dia De Los Muertos. We had FANTASTIC soloists.

Very inspired by that experience, just a few days later I auditioned for, and was admitted to Orchestra Seattle | Seattle Chamber Singers aka OSSCS!
